Rera was born with a rare genetic disorder that caused her muscles to deteriorate over time. Doctors said she wouldn't live past 20. As a child, she was fascinated by science & genetics, hoping to find a cure.Although her condition worsened over the years, she managed to go to university. She was drawn to Umbrella’s promises of medical breakthroughs & interned at the corporation, impressing them with her knowledge & determination. She was offered a full-time role after graduation.Rera started by studying the t-virus, hoping its regenerative properties could repair the defects in her DNA. Through long nights in the lab, during a secret, unauthorized testing, Rera began experimenting on herself, using her knowledge of the Progenitor virus to try altering her DNA.After several failed attempts, she found a strain that started repairing her muscle tissue.Aside from a few side effects such as temporary loss of cognitive function & increased aggression & the process being excruciatingly painful, she believed it was working…Her muscles were repairing & she could not only walk without aid, but the procedure miraculously led to her muscles gaining enhanced strength, speed & durability, her illness reversing in ways no doctor had thought possible.With renewed vigor, Rera helped Umbrella develop early bio-weapons. Her specialization was in gene therapy & she has been working on experiments trying to use viruses to ‘edit’ human DNA to reduce genetic diseases & disabilities.However, her superiors at the corporation pressured her to apply this research to creating enhanced soldiers. She began secretly documenting her work to testify to these wrongdoings.To advance her career, Rera volunteered in the Nemesis project that was conceived by Umbrella's top-secret research division, led by Dr. William Birkin & Dr. Alexia Ashford. The project's primary goal was to create the ultimate bioweapon, which would have superior intelligence & strength compared to the earlier models.This project placed Rera deeper in Umbrella's inner circle but also further compromised her morals.She started having doubts about the ethics of her work as she realized it is being weaponized rather than used for medical good but also felt trapped working for such a powerful company until the Raccoon City disaster shook her faith in Umbrella's leadership & goals for bioterrorism.Following the downfall of Umbrella Corporation as a result of the Raccoon City incident, Rera found herself without a job, as the company was disbanded and its assets seized by authorities.During this time, the remnants of Umbrella's former employees, including their data & research, were claimed by various organizations, governments & corporations hoping to acquire the company's knowledge and intellectual property.Rera, having been a valuable employee & scientist for Umbrella, was sought after by the United States government, especially considering her specialization in gene therapy & her experience with the Progenitor virus.
